The region possesses one of the world's attractions which holds a magic appeal for millions of people: the "fairy-tale castle" of Neuschwanstein, which King Ludwig II of Bavaria built to fulfil his dream.
But Swabia can also draw on a rich past of cultural history: for example, Roman finds in Kempten and Augsburg, the closed medieval town walls in Nördlingen and magnificent town halls in the former free Imperial Towns.
Here is no chance of going hungry: Flour is the heart of the Bavarian-Swabian cuisine. Milk and water, eggs and butter fat are added to it. The most important end product are the so-called "Spätzle", a noodle dough cut into small pieces that are dropped into boiling water.

Augsburg - City of the Renaissance - Renaissance of a City
Founded in 15 BC under the rule of Emperor Augustus, Augsburg grew to become a major trading centre. The imperial city achieved its greatest prosperity in the 15th and 16th centuries as a result of international trade and the banking business of the Fugger and Welser merchants families. The magnificent Renaissance buildings that give the city its unique character date from this period.
The Rathaus, or Town Hall of Augsburg was built by the City Architect Elias Holl between 1615 and 1620. Most important secular Renaissance structure north of the Alps. Expresses the self-assurance of the then Free Imperial City of Augsburg. Severly damaged in 1944 in an air raid. Reconstruction of the facade after WWII and of the interior in 1962. Opening hours: daily from 10 am to 6 pm (except when reserved for special functions). Information: Phone 324 2120

Have a look also to the Fuggerei, world's oldest old folk's estate, established 1516 by Jacob Fugger and the Schaezler Palace, built 1765-1770, sumptuous Rococo ballroom, art collection incl. works by Dürer, Holbein and Cranach.

Have a city break with pure romantic
There is a growing demand for the over 700-year-old town of Füssen -- situated at the southern end of the Romantic Road and in the heart of one of the finest holiday regions in the entire Alpine region -- as a destination for a weekend get-away or a city break.

The town’s charming location on the edge of the Alps is impressive: framed in by imposing high mountain peaks and an idyllic lake district, at an altitude of 800 – 1200 meters above sea level, thus making it Bavaria’s town at the highest elevation, the ideal starting point for visiting the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau only four kilometers away or the Wies Church (29 km).

As if drawn by an artist’s hand, the Füssen’s medieval town center rises high above the banks of the River Lech. Different historical epochs meet here in a harmonious ensemble, whose unique flair is an invitation to go on journeys of discovery into the past or to take a look around the shops.

The Hohes Schloss, the former summer residence of the prince bishops of Augsburg and one of Swabia’s largest and best preserved late gothic castle complexes, is Füssen’s landmark, towering over a maze of narrow lanes.

Renewed splendour: The German Alpine Road
Not much has been heard about Germany's oldest holiday route during the last few years. Now it is experiencing a spectacular comeback.

To remind you of the facts: The German Alpine Road was constructed in the 1930s. It runs from Lindau on Lake Constance to Berchtesgaden. No less than 21 picturesque lakes, 25 castles and 64 health resorts are situated along this road. The route, which is a good 450 km long, includes world-famous and well-known sights such as the Zugspitze and the royal castles of Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau and Herrenchiemsee. Visitors from all over the world appreciate the unique wealth of nature and culture the German Alpine Road has to offer. In spite of this, however, it no longer has the status it deserves. Now this is to change.

This is why private and public investor, health resort authorities and tourist information offices in the regions concerned teamed up in March 1999 to form the German Alpine Road Association (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutsche Alpenstraße).

The association's main priority is to promote tourism in the holiday regions and resorts. That is why the German Alpine Road is to gain international recognition as a tourist attraction. For more informations please contact us.
;

Due to this enterprising initiative the German Alpine Road is no longer behind the times and is to play a leading role in German tourism in the future . Its unique beauty and its important role as a tourist attraction are now a topic of discussion. Now nothing can prevent it being successful in the future.

Treat the children to a really good adventure Bavarian holiday -
.. and have a relaxing time yourself in uplifting surroundings. Spend your holidays on a farm in Bavaria.
Your children can discover something new and interesting every day. They could be there at the birth of a calf, play with the farmyard dog or ride a pony. They might spend a night in the hayloft or drive the tractor. They can watch the farmer at work and help to feed the animals.

And as for yourselves, you can have a truly relaxing time in the knowledge that the children are enjoying themselves. You are entirely free to decide how to spend the time and what to do.
The Bavarian countryside is immensely varied, and its history, culture and customs are equally so - not to mention differences in mentality from one locality to another. But along with these differences there are many shared features: a thriving life on the land, tolerance and openness, hearty humour and, above all, true warmth and hospitality.

To be a guest on a Bavarian farm means getting to know the land and its people in a refreshingly original way: You arrive as a guest and leave as a friend. Until the next time!

Whatever the season of the year, a holiday on a farm is an excellent idea. In spring, when life begins anew and forests and meadows are a lush green. Or in summer, when the fields are full of crops and a dip in a lake provides a welcome break from the heat. Staying on a farm in autumn means feasting your eyes on a wealth of natural colour, but also enjoying freshly picked apples, pears and plums. But in winter too, when the snow lies deep, the guest is made warmly welcome on the farm. Cross country or alpine skiing, as well as walks into the country to see the deer feeding, then home to the farmer's parlour to warm yourselves by a roaring fire.

Send us per mail all your wishes to your travelling and we will work out for you a fantastic Holiday in Bavaria and Franconia you will never forget! See our website also: www.travel-bavaria.de !!!
